Sept 2023 Presenter: Vic Shuler

We invite you to join us at our meeting on Monday September 18, 2023 for fun and fellowship.

This is our first monthly members meeting for the season. Hope to see you there - members and guests welcome!

Our presenter this month is Robert "Vic" Shuler

You may remember Vic as the winner of the Best in Show piece "Triumphant Rain" at last March's Juried Show.

Robert says "During art school, the mantra I remember hearing over and over was: “Art is right-making.” Those four simple words stuck with me and helped shape my work ethic and my passion for giving my very best. Over the course of my career, I have learned that visual artists are translators of the world around us. Our personal interpretation of this world, through the tools and skills we possess, is intimate. It involves love, passion, skill, intensity, reflection, and ultimately, our very heart and soul. I believe artists aren’t copiers of our world, rather, we represent our world with struggle and travail and offer our viewers an alternate reality. Whether abstract or representational, our responsibility is to create a reality that inspires, elevates the spirit and puts forth the idea that beauty is all around us, especially during the most tumultuous of times."

The Title of Robert's Presentation is: "What inspires the artist?"

Robert will be sharing a bit about his journey as an artist: what inspired him to begin, inspired him along the journey of his art education and continues to inspire him now.

During his presentation, he will be doing a live demo in which he will do a charcoal drawing of an Indian from a photograph by Edward Curtis (a photographer with artwork at the Library of Congress). He'll show us how to get started and develop it into a completed charcoal likeness.
