"Fishing Boats, Lake Victoria" - 18 x 24, oil on panel, NFS
When traveling in Kenya, we stopped along the road to get some photos of Lake Victoria. The fishermen that were working in their boats let us climb into their boats to take some interesting photos. There was a storm in the distance and the sun was setting which made for an interesting sky. I was attracted to this scene of the everyday working man in Kenya and their colorful boats.Â
Row 1:
"The Church on the Hillside, Italy" - 16 x 20, oil on panel, NFS
While hiking along the Amalfi Coast in Italy, we passed this little charming church building. I loved the setting with the calm water and sun setting in the distance and the tree with the pink blossoms next to it. Â
"Twilight Along Old Nairobi Road" - 16 x 20, oil on cradled panel, NFS
When we traveled across Kenya, we were able to see so many interesting sights and beautiful landscapes including wild animals lounging by the roadside. According to the photo, this lake is probably Lake Nakuru which is famous for its large population of flamingos and its rhino sanctuary. We were just passing by on the Old Nairobi Road at the time the photo was taken but it was fun to paint the scene and experience the landscape again.
"Under the Water" - oil on panel, $240
When visiting Lake Jocassee last summer, I noticed the beautiful colors along the shoreline when the sun hit the water perfectly and had to come back to paint the scene. It was a challenge to try to capture the essence of the colors of the rocks, but it was so relaxing listening to the water hit the shore. I finished the piece in the studio.
Row 2:
"Mountain Lake View" - oil on panel, $120
Lake Jocassee is a stunning lake in the Upstate of South Carolina surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains. This painting was painted while I was at Devils Fork State Park for the Artist-in-Residence program. I loved the clear water of the lake and the mountains in the background.Â
"Half Dome in Yosemite" - oil on canvas, $345
This is the studio painting created from the plein air study and my photo references of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. It was an incredible experience to sit in the meadow to observe and paint this iconic granite rock.Â
"An Afternoon in Amsterdam" - 20 x 30 x 1.5, oil on cradled panel, $475
This piece is born from a spontaneous adventure – a layover in Amsterdam that led to wandering its streets and savoring its picturesque canals, vibrant bicycles, and abundant flowers. It highlights the profound inspiration that can be found in the most unexpected moments and places, reminding us all to pause, breathe, and appreciate the quiet splendor of the everyday life. I'm hoping to return someday to spend more time in this beautiful city.
Row 3:
"Forest Guardians" - 12 x 16, oil on canvas, $210
While walking through the Kakamega Forest in Kenya, we were privileged to observe Colobus monkeys jumping from limb to limb in the high canopy of the trees. This piece captures the black and white beauty of the monkeys and the greenery of their habitat. The focus is on the fine details of their expressive features. Creating it was a deep dive into nature's complexity. Excited to share this lifelike moment from the forest with you. Credit goes to the unknown photographer for this close-up image of the monkeys.Â
"Misty Evening on the River" - 11 x 14, oil on canvas, $165
Kayaking on the Saluda River one evening as the mist floated slowly in waves over the river.
"Coconut Truck, Honduras" - 11 x 14, oil on panel, $165
This was painted from a photo I took while in Santa Rosa, Honduras. I love how the truck looked like it hadn't moved in years, but it was the perfect setting for selling coconuts. The steep cobblestone streets and the colorful buildings are a typical sight in this area.
Row 4:
"Along the Stream, Colorado" - 12 x 16, oil on panel, $240
Hiking in the great outdoors is one of my favorite pastimes. I love the sound of water flowing over the rocks. This painting is of a small waterfall in Lair o' the Bear Park in Colorado.Â
"Campbell's Covered Bridge" - 22 x 28, oil on canvas, $495
Campbell's Covered Bridge, built in 1909, is the last remaining covered bridge in South Carolina. It is located in the northeast part of Greenville County. I visited the area in the spring when the redbud trees were blossoming, and the grass was turning green.Â
Artist Bio
Jan Lane

Jan’s art journey was put on hold while homeschooling her children and then caring for her mother, however, creating has always been a passion for her. Throughout the years it manifested itself in many areas in her life but now she is able to focus on oil painting. Â
Â
Jan enjoys painting either on location (plein air) or in her studio and continues to be amazed at how a few strokes of paint can bring an object to life. Through classes, workshops, and coaching, Jan is constantly striving to learn new skills and is enjoying the challenge.Â
Working in oils, Jan paints in a representational style with vibrant colors yet with a subtle tone that enhances the effect of light. Her paintings are inspired by the many beautiful places that she has traveled and by her love of nature, each giving a sense to the viewer that they are witnessing the scenes for themselves.Â
One of Jan’s goals in her work is to create paintings that bring peace and serenity to the viewer and reflect the beauty of His Creation that is all around us.
Jan grew up in Van Wert, Ohio and is now living in Lexington, South Carolina. Email Jan at jan@janlaneart.com if you have any questions or call 803-960-2574. Â
