Chapin Town Hall Gallery Featured Artist - Alicia Leeke - July through September 2026
Please join us in congratulating Alicia Leeke for being the newest featured artist in the Chapin Town Hall Gallery. Her paintings will be on display July through September 2026. Alicia is an award-winning professional artist and an active member of the League. She frequently volunteers to share her art in our public galleries.
Artist Statement
When I was a child I wanted a terrarium, a rock tumbling kit and a microscope. I got the terrarium in a cereal box, and a geologist friend gave me a rock tumbler, but I never got a microscope. That is until I partnered with the University of South Carolina’s Marine Biology program from to create an art exhibition based on my plankton research to create an art exhibition based on scientific water samples I collected of phytoplankton from Darrell Creek in Mount Pleasant, Quinine Hill Lake in Columbia and the Port Royal Sound in Beaufort, SC.
I don’t know that I will ever own a microscope, but my vision for combining art and technology continues to be a passion of mine. This new work pushes the boundaries of my research by incorporating new technology that engages viewers.
My goal is to take viewers into an amplified world of shapes, color and sound of the natural world by exploring microcosms among flora, fauna and atmosphere.

Artist Bio
Alicia Leeke
Alicia Leeke, a native South Carolinian, started her artistic studies under Steven Nevitt at Columbia College.
Her travels to paint landscapes led her to produce a body of beautiful abstract paintings inspired by nature’s ever-changing scenery.
Leeke compares a series of art in a body of work to that of multiple product lines in sales. This means she has paintings produced in a series over time including: abstract textural landscapes, impressionistic landscapes, French cityscapes, and an abstract body of work based on plankton.
Leeke was awarded a grant by the Charleston Scientific and Cultural Education Fund to produce a traveling exhibition entitled: View from Under the Microscope: Science-based Learning Through Art. The exhibition educates the non-scientific community about the importance Phytoplankton play in our life and why we need to be good stewards of our water bodies. This body of work is currently traveling. She is also a grant recipient from the Joan Mitchell Foundation located in New York City.
CCAL Gallery Host:
The gallery is located in the Community Room in the Chapin Town Hall at 157 NW Columbia Avenue. It hosts the artwork of one of Crooked Creek Art League's finest artists on a two month rotation.
The Town is a big supporter of the arts in Chapin and we are thrilled to be working with them to showcase more art in town.
