A Message from Our President

Crooked Creek Art League Logo

Greetings to All Members and Hello to October!!!

Please join me in welcoming the following new members who joined the League in September: Randolph Carino, Angela Daniel, Linda Eichorst, Sandra Rogers, Margie Shelburg, and Marilyn Taylor. We are glad that you are now part of Crooked Creek Art League. Unfortunately, we are not able to greet you in person at this time, but we hope to see you at our October meeting on Zoom. If I have omitted someone, please let me know.

September Meeting

We are pleased that 40 members joined us via Zoom for the September meeting. Those who signed in before 7:00 were able to catch up with one another using the Chat feature. This will be our “new normal” for the time being.

Awards from the 2020 Juried Show were announced. Congratulations to People’s Choice award winner, Ruby DeLoach, for Briarpatch Bunny and to Members’ Choice award winner, Britty Pointer, for Summer Maine Roses.

The Member of the Year for 2019-2020 as voted on by the membership went to Barbara Teusink for her valued contributions to the League. Congratulations, Barbara!

The program for the evening was our own Tommy Thompson, who gave us a tour of his studio. He showed us works from two of his series of paintings and demonstrated how he “built” baby turtles for his Migration Series. His entire program was both informative and entertaining. Thank you again, Tommy!

Thank you also to Barbara Teusink and Dakin MacPhail for setting up the Zoom meeting and assisting some of us with technical issues.

Still Hopes Exhibit

Thank you to Renea Eshelman for volunteering to coordinate the Still Hopes Exhibit for December/January. Information about the exhibit is forthcoming.

October Meeting

The next general meeting will be October 19 beginning with social chat from 6:45-7:00. The meeting will begin at 7:00pm. All members should receive an email before the Zoom meeting inviting you to participate. The program presenter will be Columbia artist Rob Shaw of Rob Shaw Gallery and Framing, who will discuss and demonstrate palette knife painting. To view some of Rob’s work go to his website www.robshawgallery.com.

Membership Dues

Membership dues for the 2020-2021 League year should be paid no later than December 2020. Remember that dues for this year have been reduced by half. The easiest way to pay is through our website. The website shows the previous dues amount, but the discount will be shown when you check out. If you prefer, you may mail your check to ccal.membership@crookedcreekart.org or to Jean Kirkley, 315 Silver Wood Lane, Lexington, SC 29072.

General membership - $25 – now $12.50

Patron membership - $50 – now $25

Family (up to two household members) - $50 – now $25

Students - $20 – now $10

Member in Good Standing

Participants in the 2021 Annual Juried Exhibit must still have paid dues by December 2020 and have attended three meetings from April 2020 through February 2021. Since we were unable to meet for the regular April and May meetings, all members are being given credit for one meeting. That means that members will need to attend two additional meetings prior to registration.

TAP Gallery

All 2020 Juried Show award winners should pick up your pieces from the TAP Gallery if you have not done so. Also, all members are invited to hang one piece in the TAP Gallery for the month of October. Currently, there are only two pieces hanging there, and they are lonely!

Public Galleries

Even though some of our public galleries remain closed to the public, there are several who still welcome our artists to display. Cathy Dubiel, Public Galleries Coordinator, needs volunteers. If you are interested in displaying, please contact her at catherine.dubiel@yahoo.com.

Blog

If you have not done so, you may want to subscribe to the CCAL Blog. Click on Subscribe in the upper right corner of our website. Any member may submit a post for the Blog.
