Nov 2023 Meeting Video Online

Our presenter for the Nov 20, 2023 meeting was Rick Rhodes.

Photographing your artwork can seem like a simple task but can quickly become a daunting project depending on your end use needs. Professional photographer, Rick Rhodes, gave us pointers for artists on the basics for photographing their artwork. Rick has owned and operated Rick Rhodes Photography & Imaging, LLC, in West Ashley for nearly 25 years and is well versed in aerial, architecture, landscape, portrait, artwork, and product photography. The presentation will cover lighting, white balance, image format, camera settings, and other aspects of how to improve your ability to photograph your artwork. Rick also talked in detail about the digital image and what makes a quality image.

We had great attendance again with 46 members in person, 27 members by Zoom and 4 guests for a total of 77 participants. Thank you to everyone for joining the fun!

As a service to CCAL Members, Rick Rhodes will be at the Crooked Creek Park in the afternoon/evening on Wednesday February 28 with a full set up to take high quality photographs of YOUR artwork. This setup will be appropriate for 2D artwork only. These photos can be used for online show entries or giclée prints. Please request a time for having your photos taken by clicking the button below. Once we know how many people and artwork photos are being requested, Rick will notify you of your assigned time slot. So that as many members as possible can take advantage of this offer, please limit the number of artworks you bring to three. Note: the charge will be $30 per painting photographed. Payment to Rick will be made onsite. Cash payment only will be accepted. For each painting photographed, Rick will deliver to you a 10-inch 300 dpi tiff and jpeg and a low res jpeg for web use of each painting. Other options are possible, let Rick know what you need during your session.

Note: Attendance at this meeting counts toward Member in Good Standing (MIGS*) for entry into the Annual Juried Show and MIGS for entry into the Winter Still Hopes Juried Show.

*MIGS = Members in Good Standing = Members who have attended at least 3 meetings in order to be eligible for the next juried show. Eligible meetings occur in the eight meetings preceding the show. You can verify your MIGS status at: https://www.crookedcreekart.org/membership-directory (members password required to view.)

Door prize winners were: Barbara Teusink, Vic Shuler and Charles Hite.

A reminder to our members:

Each month, we hold a new themed contest in the TAP Gallery. All CCAL members are invited to participate. Simply create your best piece according to the theme and bring it to hang on the start date listed below. (Be sure to bring your gallery wall label.) Only original works only are permitted in judged theme contests (no prints please).

Exhibits typically change the same night as our monthly member meeting. Be sure to take home your artwork at the end of the exhibit!!

A monthly Award Winner will be selected and awarded a ribbon for themed exhibits. Happy creating! In order to give our members more time to paint ahead for the TAP Gallery Exhibits, we will be trying to keep a yearly list of upcoming themes published in advance.
