Artist Statement

During these dark winter months we look forward to and indeed long for the birds and flowers of Spring. I’m thankful to God for enabling me to paint these examples of birds and flowers native to South Carolina. Hold on Spring is Coming!

Artist Bio

Photo of artist: Mary Williams

Though Mary’s background is Nursing, she has always loved Art. The gift for art has come down through my family. My grandfather painted, my father sculpted birds and my mother could cut out and sew a dress without a pattern.

“Many of my commissions include portraits. Whether painting a landscape, person or place, I strive to paint the essence of place or the personality of the subject.”

Among her awards, the Artist in Residence opportunities through the SC State Parks afforded her the most growth as an artist, with the concentrated time of daily painting plein air.

She recently illustrated a devotional book by her late father, Under His Wings, by Gordon Elliott. Commissions include portraits and Landscapes in South Carolina, California, Michigan and Canada. Her work can also be found in China and Malta.
