Artist Statement

I was inspired to paint this painting of the sunset at the Marina late one afternoon while I was in Beaufort, SC. I tried to capture the sun's reflection on the boats and the water as well as the secondary reflection from the water on the boats as folks were tying up their boats the end of the day.

Artist Bio

With engineering and business degrees, I pursued an academic career where: I held endowed professorships, taught thousands of students, published over 60 articles, and coauthored three books. I renewed my love of art upon retirement from USC by taking numerous workshops. I have been active in the Columbia art community serving as workshop coordinator, Vice President and President of the Crooked Creek Art League. In addition to showing my work in numerous shows in Columbia, where I won several awards, and in Charleston; I was juried into the Southeastern Pastel Society's 17th and 18th International Exhibits in Atlanta; the Southeastern Pastel Society’s Visual Arts Center Exhibition in Roswell, GA; the Appalachian Pastel Society's 2018 Show; and Artfields 2017. I participated in a six-person show at the Center for the Arts at USC Beaufort and in my reunion's 2017 art Exhibit at Cornell University. I’m a member of the Village Artists Gallery in Columbia.

Thank you to everyone that participated!

Join the fun by entering your artwork in the coming months! The next competition theme will be Houses and Architecture and will hang from our February meeting until when the Juried Show Winners move to the TAP Gallery on March 30.
