Artist Bio:
Award winning artist Sonya Diimmler paints colorful South Carolina lake and landscapes along with her favorite subject and muse her bulldog Smedley. Having just started painting in 2015, Sonya fell in love with the process and quickly began a daily painting practice. She continually seeks to improve through frequent workshops and has studied with Mary Bentz Gilkerson and Michael Story. Most recently Sonya has started several series of abstract paintings in oil and cold wax. Sonya currently serves as President for Crooked Creek Art League in Chapin.
Her skyscape painting “Orange Descent II” won a merit award at the South Carolina State Fair in 2017. Her painting “Brown Eyed Beggars” won first place in the Amateur Division at Crooked Creek’s Annual Juried Show in 2018 and the abstract “Grille Soleil” earned a merit award in the same show. Most recently, Sonya received the Frank Hart Allstate Insurance Company Award at Union County Arts Council Art Exhibition 2018 and 2nd Place at Crooked Creek Art League’s Fall Juried Show at Still Hopes.
