One of the featured artists for August 1 through September 30, 2026, is Cathy Schwalm. Cathy is an active member of the Crooked Creek Art League and an award-winning artist. She serves the League as coordinator of the two Irmo Library Exhibitions. She frequently volunteers to share her art in our public galleries.

Artist Bio

Cathy Schwalm

My artistic journey is rooted in a deep appreciation for various forms of art that come out of being surrounded by the diverse influences of music and visual creativity within my family environment. The simple act of sketching or painting was always a natural means of self-expression which allowed me to create and capture the essence of nature and human experiences on canvas. My love of the beauty of animals, water, flowers and land/seascapes is a joy for me to express in my paintings.

After years of raising my three children, I made a dedicated decision to attend college where I graduated with a Fine Arts Degree. I had the privilege to learn from esteemed artists and to participate in numerous juried shows over the years. My artistic journey has been one of continual growth and exploration.

As a member of Douglaston Art League NY, Pocono Art League PA, Patchogue Art Council L.I.NY and now Crooked Creek Art League SC, these famous and accomplished artists have included: Barbara Dachowski, Pastelist; John McAllister, Jack Bolin, Oil Painting; David Kulsea, Pat Hoshino, Joan Raushi, Watercolorists; Peter Hansen, Alex Castro, Drawing (pencil and charcoal) and Anthony Padavano, Sculptor (exhibited in MOMA)

The Crooked Creek Art League has made my journey as an artist extremely fulfilling. There are so many opportunities and rewards that have been afforded to me since becoming a member.

My awards include:

1^st place in Fine Artist’s Amateur Oil Painting Division at the South Carolina State Fair 2024.

The Crooked Creek Art League 28^th, 29^th and 30^th Annual Juried Sale and Show:

28^th- 2^nd place Amateur Division and People’s Choice Award

29^th – Merit Award and People’s Choice Award

30^th -People’s Choice Award

Mediums I work in are Oil, Acrylic, Watercolor, Pastels, Charcoal, Pen and Ink.

I humbly and gratefully accept the honors mentioned above. I will remain committed to pursuing my artistic calling and believe that each blank canvas offers a new artistic possibility, a testament to the power that art offers; the ability to transcend boundaries and a means to express the beauty of the world around us.

The Ramco Framing CCAL Gallery is hosted by Jason Williams, the gallery owner. Floral, landscape, still life and abstract works by local artists illuminate the gallery and pieces are rotated on a regular basis. The gallery is open to the public during Ramco Framing and Design's normal business hours. Find a piece you love. You can have Jason or Ashley frame it for you or select a piece that is already framed and purchase it immediately.

Two artists are included in each exhibit, each with an 8'Hx5'W wall to display a number of pieces of wall hanging artwork. The displays rotate every two months. A 20% commission goes to the gallery for each sale.
