Artist Bio
Al Leitch

I participated in art programs for high school students at the Carnegie Museum of Art and Carnegie Mellon University. With my engineering and business degrees, I pursued an academic career in accounting at several major universities, with the last 23 years at the University of South Carolina. During my career I taught thousands of students, published over 60 articles in leading journals, coauthored three books, held endowed professorships, and served as department chair at Alabama and as associate dean at Georgia. Upon retirement from USC, I was named Distinguished Professor Emeritus.
I decided to renew my love of art upon retirement from USC. I participated in numerous Columbia, Southeastern Pastel Society and Pastel Society of South Carolina workshops. I’ve been active in the Columbia art community serving as workshop coordinator, Vice President, and President of the Crooked Creek Art League. I currently show my originals and prints at Partager Gallery, Gifts and Home in Columbia, Palmetto Fine Arts in Chapin, Custom Framer in Lexington and RAMCO in Irmo.
In addition to exhibiting my work in Columbia and Charleston, where I won numerous awards: I was juried into numerous Southeastern Pastel Society's Member and International Exhibitions in the Atlanta area; the North Carolina Statewide Pastel Exhibitions; the Appalachian Pastel Society's 2018 Show; and Artfields 2017. I participated in a show at the Center for the Arts at USC Beaufort, an exhibit at the Bibliowicz Gallery at Cornell University, the Art Market at the Historic Honey Horn in Hilton Head, and the Bluffton Arts and Seafood Festival in Bluffton, SC. I am a Member of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Society, and an Associate Member in the American Pastel Society. I participated in the Bullets and Bandaids Exhibit at the Ringling College of Art and Design in 2024. I recently received 1st place in the Masters Division at the Crooked Creek Art League’s 2025 Annual Juried Show and 1st place at TAG’s 2025 Still Hopes Show as well as an Honorable Mention in the Pastel Society of South Carolina's 2026 Member's Exhibition.
