Michael Naughton is a self-taught acrylic painter who began to paint over 25 years ago by painting his work on decorative items for the home. Around 2020, while contemplating retirement from his professional career as a Human Resources and Learning Development leader, he began to evolve his work into original paintings on canvas. He also began to take on-line and in-person courses.

Michael has shown his work in and around the Columbia, South Carolina area. He participated in the Rosewood Art and Music Festival, Still Hopes Exhibition, Cottontown Art Crawl, and 701 CCA Columbia Open Studios at Genesis Studios. Michael had the honor of being an exhibitor at 911 Lady Street during the Artista Vista 2023 and 2024.

In October 2024, Michael was one of seven exhibitors in the first ever Queerfish Exhibition as part of the 2025 Pride Celebration at the Columbia Museum of Art. During the same week this exhibition traveled to two local churches.

He also had paintings exhibited at Prosperity SC Town Hall, Sozo Family Fitness and Chapin SC Town Hall, organized by the Crooked Creek Art League. And he displays his work regularly at the Ellen Owens Salon in Columbia and Palmetto Fine Arts in Chapin.

Michael’s artistic philosophy is that every artist creates through their own frame of reference.  Michael ‘s goals are to continuously learn from other artists, build on his successes, and modify his techniques. Although Michael prefers creating abstract expressionistic pieces, he also enjoys exploring other styles of painting. He further appreciates that the joy of art for viewers and clients is very personal and diverse. Michael is a proponent of providing art product options affordable to everyone.

Michael has been a resident of South Carolina for 30 years, the past 22 years in Chapin, SC. A native of Pittsburgh, PA, he is a graduate of Penn State University and La Roche University.
