About the Artist
JD Davis

I’m JD Davis, a South Carolina–based abstract artist and Vietnam veteran. My path into painting began only a few years ago, when I discovered a profound connection to creating art. Completely self-taught, I draw from my environment and the experiences that have shaped my life.
Art serves as my personal journal—an expression of emotion without language. Through abstract work, I explore the full spectrum of human feeling: joy, grief, resilience, and the quieter moments in between. The shifting forms and colors in my paintings mirror the fluidity and unpredictability of life itself.
My military service continues to influence my perspective and creative voice. The emotional depth and complexity of that period inform the layers within my work, offering viewers another dimension through which to engage with each piece.
My process is spontaneous. I paint without preliminary sketches, allowing the act of creating to lead the way. This intuitive approach helps me access the dreams, impressions, and internal landscapes that guide my work. Each painting invites viewers to connect with their own interpretations and emotions, finding personal meaning within the abstract.
