Artist Statement

"After painting with Briget O'Conner my floral's started "blooming". Guess we will call this display "Four Floral's and a Dragonfly". Floral's have become a favorite and dragonflies I just like. I enjoy painting and creating in all media's yet seem to use watercolor the most. Painting is my "happy place."

Morning sunlight enters the Art Party Studio in Dutchman Shores in Chapin where painting allows me to fall into the face of a flower, to touch yesterday, to behold a landscape and briefly walk with my Creator.

Artist Bio: Ruby DeLoach

Ruby developed a love of nature growing up in a history book on Blackstock Road in Union County. Stories of the Revolutionary War and the Battle of Blackstock where often told. Tales of Old Bloody Bill Cunningham could conjure up nightmares. She, her sister and cousins enjoyed walks along old Indian trails, woodlands and open fields discovering wild flowers and observing landscapes with waves of wheat blowing in the wind, whistling bobwhite bird calls, and viewing the smoky blue mountains horizon sunsets and sunrises at the Appalachian Foothills. Passionate feelings direct her brush in oil, watercolor and acrylic mediums.

After 40 years as an educator, Ruby retired, cleaned out her attic, hired a contractor to add a dormer and created an art studio where she has written and illustrated three children's books (Earth Turns on Its Axis, and..., Growing Little Green Thumbs (SC Book Festival Selection), & Appalachian Mornings). The G.R.O.W! theme of Great Readings Open Worlds echoes through all her books. A forth book, Playing in the Dirt, is in progress. Excerpts can be found in her monthly Growing Little Green Thumbs column at www.jungletaming.com. Her books are available at The Coffee Shelf. Ruby's art can be found at Palmetto Fine Arts in Chapin and The Gallery in Newberry. Ruby participates in Columbia Open Studio when her Art Party Press, Studio and Gallery is open to the public in April. She enjoys Author/Illustrator visits to elementary schools.
