A great collection of 3D artwork is on exhibit in the TAP Gallery Display Cabinet for November. Jane Couch-Osmelowski has a collection of her beautiful and imaginative bowls, platters and other ceramics arrayed for your viewing pleasure.
Jane Couch-Osmelowski, a native South Carolinian, is a ceramicist currently living and working in Columbia, South Carolina. She earned her BA in Art from Winthrop University in 1973 and a MAT in Art Education from the University of South Carolina in 1974. She retired from a combined 38 year career as an art educator, both as an elementary art teacher and an adjunct instructor in art education at the University of South Carolina.Earth and Sea Pottery began as an outlet for Jane to explore functional ceramic art forms through a variety of processes. Her pieces vary from traditional wheel-thrown, hand built, and slab thrown on forms on the wheel. Her main inspiration is the natural beauty that abounds in South Carolina. She digs red clay (rich in red iron oxide) from her yard to enhance and pigment her pieces, and embellishes them with a variety of sculptural organic forms to evoke images from the sea. Jane’s work has been exhibited in juried shows and she was the recipient of the Patron’s Purchase Award at the South Carolina State Fair in 2014 and 2015 and placed in ceramics in 2017. Her work can be found in the SC Artisan’s Center in Walterboro, SC, and galleries in Columbia, South Carolina.
