Artist's Statement

Chapin is known for being the “Capital of Lake Murray” and there is no denying that it is a huge part of our town. The lake offers many activities including fishing and boating, water skiing and kayaking. Its shorelines are full of our homes, our friend's homes, restaurants and local hot spots. When it comes to lake living, it’s always in season and always prevalent in our community.

While traveling, I’ve seen many murals scattered around in small towns and large cities. Usually they are painted to highlight the unique qualities that make the specific area special. I felt Chapin needed one of its own. My design was to showcase all the features of Lake Murray. The wildlife, the incredible sunsets, the landmarks and recreational activities are all a part of the vision. The photo opportunities on each end of the mural were painted so that the viewers could actually interact with the artwork. I named the artwork “Small Town Charm”. There’s a simple and yet charming way about life in Chapin. No matter how much the town continues to grow, I think that is a constant theme that has never changed.

About the Artwork

“Small Town Charm” is a large mural painted across the entire side of a building in downtown Chapin. It was painted in very durable high quality and weather resistant water based paint. The design and finish were both done by artist Nicki Peeples.
