Introspection – the Art of Painting from Within
 by Ingrid Carson
This exhibition includes only artwork with no predetermined subject. Each piece initiated with pouring of paint onto canvas. I then spread the paint with tools like trowels and scrapers. With each application of paint, I would step back and take a moment to reflect on what I saw. If something appeared, using a brush I would push the paint to enhance the found subject/object. Most often I see images of people in my work.
I consider this to be my most creative work. My mind’s eye determines the direction the work will take. If I see no direction but am attracted to the shapes and colors, I stop and let the viewer have creative thought.Â

Artist Bio
Ingrid Carson
Ingrid Carson has been a South Carolina resident since 1978 receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Columbia College in 1990. She double majored in drawing and photography, but has since been recognized for her realistic oil paintings and abstract water media work. Ingrid continues to attend national workshops focusing on expanding her abilities and knowledge of new media and innovative ideas for creating visual art. Ingrid’s quest for originality of thought and subject matter continues to surprise the viewer. She spends her winters in South Carolina and her summers in her mountain home in Wolf Laurel, North Carolina. Her body of work is a visual diary of her life’s experiences, insights, and inspirations. The places she goes, the people she meets, and her thoughts are foundations for her art. She builds on that foundation with her knowledge of design: line, texture, value, and space. The execution of the artwork is a journey encompassing her feelings relating to the subject and the process of manipulating the medium.
