Spotlight Artist November 2018: Maureen Carter

Congratulations to our Spotlight Artist of the Month for November: Maureen Carter!

Oil Painting "Watching for the Winter Birds" by Roberta Sorensen

"Murren Crossing"

About This Piece:

“Murren Shack” was done on location in Murren, Switzerland. This piece brings back such wonderful memories for me – memories of riding the cable car up the mountain 5,000 feet to the town of Murren, sitting in the beautiful location to paint, listening to the rush of the waterfall, feeling the cool breeze and breathing the rarefied air of the Alps!

Artist Bio

I will forever consider myself a student of Art. I have been very fortunate to be able to take workshops with some inspiring and highly successful artists. I try to soak up what each instructor offers and keep my creative juices flowing! I’ve dabbled in Acrylic, Oil, Mixed Media and Collage but my favorite media is Watercolor. My style is subtle realism with a hint of abstraction. I want to create pieces that are recognizable but leave room for interpretation by the viewer. When painting on location, I am more interested in creating the feeling of being in that place rather than a photographic replica of what I saw.

I am a member of Crooked Creek Art League and the SC Watermedia Society. My work has been in the SC State Fair, where in 2017 I won 3rd place in Mixed Media. I’ve won Honorable Mention in the North Charleston Arts Festival, the Old Santee Art Show and Crooked Creek Art Leagues Juried Exhibition, along with People Choice in 2015.
