Mary Williams

Although working as a nurse over 30 years, Mary has sketched and painted since high school taking classes in oil, watercolor, acrylic, and tole painting.
The gift for art has come down through my family. My grandfather painted, my father sculpted birds from wood and my mother could cut out and sew a dress without a pattern. Many of my oil and pastel paintings have been portrait commissions. I love people's faces and I paint not just the likeness but strive to reflect the spirit and personality of the person. When painting landscapes or still life, I strive to paint the essence of the subject or place.
Awards include, "Poppies in the Rain", "Salmon Run", South Carolina State Fair, "Playing in Poppies", Mother and Child", Crooked Creek Art League, "Mountain Majesty", American Juried Art Salon, and Artist in Residence Opportunities with the South Carolina State Parks. Her commission works include "The Corley Mill House and Garden" and the 200th anniversary cookbook cover for First Baptist Church, Columbia, "An Open Door". The artist has painted many commission portraits locally and for others in North Carolina, California and Michigan. Her prints are found not only here in the USA but in Canada, Malta and China. Her work has been published in the Mid Carolina Magazine and the Lexington Chronicle.
Art is God's gift to us in troubled times.
